The Educational Programs and Arts & Entertainment Committees of the Yale Alumni Association of Metropolitan New York (YAAMNY), in collaboration with the Tisch School of the Arts’ Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at New York University, present...
an evening with acclaimed poet and librettist, Yale professor, President of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and Editor of The Yale Review J.D. McClatchy (Ph.D. '74) on "The Poet as Librettist." This talk will address the literary and practical business of putting an opera together in the midst of clashing personalities, slashed budgets, crazy directors and temperamental singers.
A forty-five minute talk will be followed by a fifteen minute question and answer session followed by a thirty minute informal reception. All are welcome including friends and family.
This program will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts’ Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, at 113-A 2nd Avenue, between 6th and 7th Streets.

The Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program is a master's degree program specially designed for the major collaborators in the creation of new musical theatre and opera. The program's aim is to give students the skills to be able to wed form to content in original ways that best fulfill their unique artistic visions.
